Photoshoot Organised

I have organised a photoshoot with Tom Furniss and Connor Penson for tomorrow (Wednesday 7th December) and I'm also in the process of deciding on a date to do another photoshoot with a girl. I haven't decided which of the three I want to use on the front cover of my magazine so I'm going to take a range of photo's of each of them that would be appropriate for either/and my front cover, contents page and double page spread.

The photos I got in the practise photoshoot I did a few weeks ago with Tom came out really well with the clothing and poses. However, there were a couple of problems with the shots and small things such as part of the guitar being cut out of the picture etc. So I have decided to do another photoshoot in the same style but just improve the quality of photo.

With Connor, I want to portray him as a "rockstar" as opposed to Tom's indie/pop look. I have got an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar for him to use as his 'instruments' and he is going to wear skinny jeans and a band tshirt.

Ideas

After researching other music magazines I have noticed that there are no magazines aimed at solo artists in the music industry. I also particularly like how Q magazine brings all different genres of music together in its monthly edition. Taking this into consideration, I have decided I want to make my music magazine based around solo artists from all genres of music. I think it would be appealing to people because it would be something new and different on the market but I am going to emulate the style of NME/Q magazine as it will be something readers are familiar with.

Before I begin drafting my front cover, I'm going to do some research into current solo artists and the ones people stated in my questionnaire, and then I'm going to see if they have been on the cover of other music magazines and how they are portrayed.

Results

The results of my music magazine questionnaire will help me to decide the content of my magazine. For example, a high number of participants said that Rock, Indie and Pop were their favourite genre of music so therefore including these types of music would make my magazine appeal to them. £2-£2.90 was the most popular price they would be willing to pay for a music magazine so to price it any higher would mean few of my target audience would actually buy the maagzine. My results gave me the names of many solo artists that are currently popular and so they will also be included in my magazine. Overall, the questionnaire results will give me a clear idea of exactly what my target audience like and expect for a music magazine.

Second Magazine Analysis

I am still struggling to decide what kind of music magazine I want to make so I've decided to do a second magazine analysis of a similar genre. This will hopefully give me more ideas on how my magazine should look and the content of it.

Gathering Results

I am currently gathering the results of my Music Magazine questionnaire and putting them into graphs so they are easier to read. I will then use the results to help me make decisions on what my magazine should look like.

Music Magazine Questionnaire

As part of my research into my target audience, I have produced a questionnaire that will give me a clearer idea of what genre of music, price, features etc to include in my magazine. It will give me a specific idea of what will interest my target audience enough for them to buy my magazine over others.

Photoshoot

I organised a photoshoot today to try and get a potential dominant image for the front cover of my magazine. I used a white sheet to create a plain background as all of the walls in my house are coloured. The props that I used were an acoustic guitar and some headphones. I wanted to portray him as a solo artist, so before I began taking pictures I researched the typical pose and stances of other artists such as Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Travie Mccoy. I tried to mimic these in the photos. I took 31 photos and here are some of my strongest ones:
